Effective Relationships 101….taught by our new President, Barack Obama. In an interview about dealing with the Middle East he said, “All too often the United States starts by dictating, in the past, on some of the issues, and we don’t always know all of the factors that are involved. So let’s listen…………”
I am encouraged that [...]

Say Amen Somebody!

On May 17, 1967, Ron Scolastico sat on the steps of Sproul Plaza at UC Berkeley, mesmerized by the words and presence of Martin Luther King who helped pave the way for a person of color to become President. On January 17, 2009, Ron and I listened with tears in our eyes, [...]

New You Resolutions

HAPPY NEW YEAR! In the closing of this month’s Study Group Reading, the Guides (through Ron Scolastico) speak to us about the “momentum” of our lives. I was recently talking with a Study Group member about how the effect of childhood sexual or physical abuse creates a negative self image and disassociation [...]

Saint or Sinner, you decide

Okay, I admit I am a strong supporter of Barack Obama. And I couldn’t imagine why anyone wouldn’t be impressed with him. So I was surprised to learn that one of Ron’s clients, who lives in Texas, was confused because several of her friends think that Obama has a hidden agenda and is actually the [...]

Hope and Gratitude

(post updated 11/5/08) Today we have a new President of the United States. A new day is born! One of the reasons that Ron and I supported Obama is the spirit of hope and common sense that he brings to his platform. It reminds me of the Kennedy years when we were young and idealistic. [...]

A friend and client of ours who has struggled with lifelong depression, recently asked me how I deal with depression. He knew that I had reason to be depressed this year. My oldest daughter has had serious breast cancer, another family member is facing cancer treatments and I lost a friend to cancer. It was [...]

Smoke & Ashes

It’s that time of year again and we are breathing smoke and ashes. We live 13 miles due south of the currently burning Porter Ranch fire with two cities in between. So we are alert but not really worried. Every year at this time there are fires somewhere in California. The Santa Ana winds kick [...]

Are we having fun yet?

7 Oct 2008 In: Posts

Last Sunday we visited Universal Studios with our son and two of our grandsons. It was a treat to spend the day with them, and we thought it would be a pleasant distraction from the woes of the world. We thought perhaps because of the economy, there would be fewer people and the lines would [...]

What costume are you wearing this lifetime?

2 Oct 2008 In: Posts

The Guides’ idea of our present personality as a “costume” evokes wonderful images of closets full of every variety of garments. In the Study Group Reading for October they say:
“In each cycle of human experience on earth, think of a new costume. Each of you is beginning to understand that you are not your costume. [...]
